Governor Robert Bentley issued the following statement today regarding the repeal of the DROP program passing through the Alabama Senate.

"Today members of the Senate took a major step forward in making sure Alabama has a balanced and responsible budget. By voting to repeal DROP, the Senate has taken steps to save our Education Trust Fund an estimated $35 million. DROP has overly taxed our retirement system. The taxpayer simply cannot afford to sustain the continued high cost of teacher retirement and health care. I thank the Alabama Senate in taking this important step, and I will watch with interest as the DROP Repeal Bill moves through the House."
